Walleye Fishing Tips

Walleye fishing is at times said to be very slow and boring. This is just not true if you follow certain walleye fishing tips that are presented below:

Walleye Fishing Tips

Concentration and Control

Angling is something that requires constant attention and concentration. Successful walleye angling can be very demanding. It is very important to pay attention to detail, as often it is the small details that yield big results. Boat control is also necessary and requires keeping your boat on top of fish may it be trolling, drifting or even bobber fishing. Your line goes where the boat goes.

Conditions

Successful walleye anglers have to learn to not only fish in changing conditions but also take charge of them. They should not let the weather tell them whether to fish or not. Although changing presentations and methods is necessary for changing condition but do not quit. Also, you need to adjust accordingly if the fish change their pattern with changes in the weather.

Use Light Line

Light, thin-diameter lines are the best as they present less drag, or battle, on a lure. This lets a walleye suck it in more effortlessly.

Bounce the Bait

If you are using live-bait it is required to use a bottom-bouncer rig. As an angler recovers the rig, the weight bounces off the bottom and creates slack in the line, which allows the fish to inhale the bait more easily.

Shorten the Stroke

Pumping the rod too vigorously is useless. Using short lifts can turn out to be successful to hook more walleyes.

Offer a Bigger Bite

Adding a plastic body to a jig also helps by mounting the surface area to which the fish’s sucking force is applied. Slightly bigger bait is easier for the fish to inhale.

Pump a Crank

With crankbaits, stable retrieves may hook hostile walleyes, but a stop-and-go method is better for purposeful feeders. Once the lure dies, lift the rod tip, reel in the slack, and repeat.

Troll with the Flow

When the water has a chop, trolling with the waves imparts that essential small slack in the line. In addition, keep a close eye on your inside planer board as you make a turn; it will give you that small amount of slack that allows for more solid strikes which definitely brings in more walleyes!
